Home is where your heart is
Grace is a beautiful racing bird that ended up flying over 300 miles off course during high winds. She ended up at my house. I took her in and through her tags, found her owner, who wanted me to return her. I explained how far away I was and that I would take care of her until she was healthy again. After a few days, I put her in my open barn and let her live freely. I fed and watered her, and she adapted quickly to living with my horses. When my horses came to the fence during feed time, she would walk out, too, and waddle around under their hooves. Her favorite thing to do was poking around under their hooves, gobbling up any goodies they might drop. I found a ladder with round rungs so that she could perch, which she did nightly. 3 months later, my heart broke when I had to travel for a few days, and she left at the same time. 2 days later, I got a text that she’d found her way home… as happy as I was that she found her way back, I miss her every day, as she had graced me with her presence for 3 beautiful months.
